The first sets of nominees for this year’s Video Music Awards were announced during FNMTV on Friday, and perhaps what’s most impressive is the fact that bubblegum star Chris Brown got nominated in both announced categories, despite one of them being Best Female Video. (His duet partner Jordin Sparks’ “No Air” got one of the nods.) But aside from that, the big, obvious question posed by both “Piece Of Me” and “I Kissed A Girl” being up for Best Female Video is this: Will Britney Spears be coaxed out of her hermitude and forced to kiss Katy Perry? And if the smooch does happen, does that mean the Madonna Curse will be passed on? We can only hope. Is it safe to assume that this will be your default Katy Perry pic from here on out? I prefer the Capitol-approved, of-boys-and-boners shots myself, but I get the appeal of this one…It’s like Katy Perry doing an impression of Kristen Wiig doing an impression of Katy Perry.
@Bob Loblaw: Actually, Billboard was using that photo as its regular image of Perry for weeks before they finally got a new one.
Note how all five Male nominees come from R&B/Hip-Hop. Bad year for whitey — or is it just impossible for solo honkie men to score big pop hits nowadays? (Chris Martin has to back himself up with three near-anonymous guys to score U.S. hits.)

I am still trying my bestest to not care for this Katy Perry track, but society at large is making it very, very hard. What with the track popping up in many an advertisement on my television screen, and young twenty-something males standing behind me in line at Vons singing the hook and giggling, professing how great the damn track is. [Real talk] -Sigh- Thank god I don’t listen to the radio.
hmmm, my daughter is just discovering Rihanna, so how long before I’m forced to actually hear what Perry sounds like?
