“Fashion Rocks” Makes Us Nostalgic For A Different Kind Of Entertainment

71816326.jpgApparently, televising that strange advertainment enterprise known as Fashion Rocks doesn’t seem secondhand enough on its face. This year’s festivities, the fifth overall, air Sept. 9 on CBS, but the lineup we mentioned last week has been modified: the Pussycat Dolls, Chris Cornell, OneRepublic, Solange Knowles, Timbaland, and the one and only Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991 (well, that’s what we call them, in honor of their, er, “comeback album”) will now appear at Radio City Music Hall. That list of tack-ons is so dispiriting it can make you miss the days when such specials featured real all-around entertainers, such as those in the classic clip below.

Now that’s entertainment!

I don’t know if I’ve ever been more unamused at pop music as when the pussycat dolls informed me that they want to have boobies. Fergie missing me like a child misses their blanket, in all its awkward phrasing, is a close second.

@TheRunningboard7: They’re allegedly saying “groupies” there. I don’t believe it either.

@TheRunningboard7: See, I like the blanket line. I know it’s cheezy, but it pretty much describes about how one feels for the first like, day or so after getting out of a relationship with a manipulative dickweed. But maybe that’s just me. (Also, I like the Rex Harrison patter song/recitative-delivery of that phrase, too.)
