You Can Buy Nick Jonas' Diabetes Song Today!

Forget Conor Oberst and Randy Newman; today's new releases are merely a brief respite before Jonas Brothers full-length fever kicks in next Tuesday. As part of their run-up strategy to have a top-selling digital single every week before their forthcoming album, A Little Bit Longer, comes out in seven days, another song from the record is available via the iTunes store today. This time, it's the title track, which is apparently about Nick's struggle with diabetes. The ballads are likely the Jonas tracks least palatable to our post-preteen ears, but this song is fine for what it is, seemingly designed to be heard with glowing cell phone screens held aloft, thus obscuring your view of Kevin. Better yet, Pop Star Magazine posted a video of the boys at a batting cage! This is how it's going to be for a while, you know. [Jonas Brothers]

  • They should have covered "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies.

  • Strhow as much as I adore Joe, I cannot bring myself to care even a little about Nick. I root for, and pity, Kevin even as he begins to look like a pig in a wig, but Nick leaves me utterly cold.

  • @Nunya B: "Strange how." Fuckin' iPhone.

  • I have seen them do this song live twice, and I find it somewhat the most obnoxious part of their live set - Nick noodles on it for TEN MINUTES, and when he makes you sing it back to him he keeps tricking you by singing it differently and you kinda feel like he's yelling at you. His brothers used to just stand there looking like they sort of wanted to throttle him, but now they let them come in midway through...and Joe has a guitar and gets to play a chord!!!! Hot.

BUT, I have never not been surrounded by at least three 14 year old dissolving into outright sobs during this song. Which is pretty awesome. The tears pour out, like spigots, cartoon style. So I find myself comforting strangers' abandoned teenagers.

@Nunya B: I started that way, too. I swear, he has more technical skill, but Joe's got all the heart. But since Nick writes Joe's material, we're cool. Joe pulls you in, Nick grows on you...he's a sleeper.

  • Oh and YO, Kevin's fanbase is growing exponentially. Especially among the moms (well, it's true).
