@amandacobra, The hotel they were staying in is in fact not a Super 8, but it is in Old Montreal, a historic part of the city were underground parking is not an option. In fact most the streets are cobblestone.

This was stolen in Downtown Montreal in front of a hotel which isn’t a skid row hotel…
I will be seeing them tonight at Massey Hall so maybe I shall report tomorrow what gear they were using…I know that Mike was shopping here in Toronto for a new bass…
Fuck the assholes who did this…they probably have no idea who the band was that they ripped off…anyway…I am sure that every shop in MTL is looking for it now and is aware of what it is…

That Gibson EB bass Watt has had for over 30 years…thing dates to the Minutemen days…

I wonder if it's the same person that swiped Sonic Youth's gear because we could seriously be facing the possibility of an instrument supervillain.

I'm waiting for a drumset to get stolen during a performance. Then we know we're dealing with pros.

This can literally end some smaller touring bands...at least for a few months. Google "bands equipment stolen"; it's amazing to see how frequent it happens, but that's just established acts we hear about. Who knows how many bands set out for the first time and get robbed blind; one and done.

It's hard for me to have a lot of sympathy for The Stooges, regardless of how sweet the gear is. The painkillers will be missed the most(is that for real?).

I know this is speculative of me but that’s a lot of equipment so I am assuming this is a pretty big rental truck that was stolen. And I am also assuming that The Stooges’ guarantee is generous enough that they are not staying at Super 8. Therefore, surely they were staying at a hotel with a parking garage? As in this truck was not just parked on the street, right? So there should have been some sort of security in the parking garage, right? Just confused.

not to be a dick but how many stories of bands’ gear being stolen will it take before people realize it’s probably a good idea to secure your shit before going to bed? news flash, theifs know that shit is worth money, and they know where you’re crashing after the gig, bring that shit inside people! or if you’re the stooges, fuck, pay a security guy or something.
