Just in time for Sugarland’s new album, Love On The Inside, to snag the album charts’ top spot from Miley Cyrus, founding member Kristen Hall has decided to take action against Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush for a milli and a half. She’s claiming she has a right to that money because she came up with the band’s name and worked on their older tracks, but apparently Nettles and Bush are leery of sharing the profits of their music with someone who left the group three years ago. Gee, wonder why. [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]

Certainly, Hall was not only a founding member of the group but also important in helping to establish the Sugarland “brand”. But she left the group and hasn’t been around for their last two albums. She apparently hasn’t had anything to do with the group’s success in the last three years.
Sounds to me like someone regrets her decision to “focus on my songwriting”.
P.S. I still have never heard the story behind why three veterans of the Athens-area folk/country scene were in a band named after a suburb of Houston, Texas.
Woah, I totally didn’t realize that this Kristen Hall was one in the same with the Kristen Hall who was a total guilty pleasure in my college years (yes, it’s true — my first few years of college were all about uh, lady singer/songwriters). That’s kind of mindboggling!!
