ARTIST: Franz Ferdinand
TITLE: “Lucid Dreams”
WEB DEBUT: Aug. 11, 2008
ONE-LISTEN VERDICT: The new song from the Scottish outfit Franz Ferdinand is streaming from a Web page that’s decorated with a spinning turntable, and the band has helpfully added in some pops and scratches so that you can get the vinyl experience while listening at your desk. There’s also something curiously retro about the track; “Lucid Dreams” dispenses with the bass-forward bombast of stadium anthems like “Take Me Out” for a more treble-heavy sound that makes it sound like it could have been a track left off one of the Nuggets box sets by accident. I’m pretty much a sucker for most of this band’s output, and “Lucid Dreams” doesn’t disappoint in any way; if anything, the leaner sound displayed here is making me even more excited for their future output.
WHERE TO FIND IT: The band’s official site has helpfully supplied the below embed, although you’ll have to give up an e-mail address if you want to hear the whole song.

Did they get a two-for-one deal on those shirts?
I always found this bands second record terribly under-rated. I might even say I (gasp) like it better than the first.
@2ironic4u: i think it was good, but the production was just hard to get past. way too harsh and sterile.
A few days ago I visited their web site, the first time in ages, the music you could stream from the site sounded great, I’m really looking forward to hearing the new album.
