In the Dept. of Stuff You Wouldn’t Bother Making Up If You’d Tried, Oct. 13 brings glad tidings in the form of We Wish You a Metal Christmas, which is exactly what it says it is. Elves are involved, of course: Ronnie James Dio sings “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” while backed by guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Rudy Sarzo, and drummer Simon Wright. John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” is taken up by a corporate-rock all-star unit including Styx and Damn Yankees vet Tommy Shaw, and session giants Steve Lukather (also of Toto) on guitar and Kenny Aronoff (ex-John Mellencamp) on drums. Alice Cooper lends his vocals to “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” There’s also something that appears to be an outtake from the Probot album in the body of “Run Rudolph Run,” sung by Lemmy, guitared by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and drummed by Dave Grohl. Ho, ho, ho. [Planet Rock; HT Jon Solomon / Pic via Making Creative Matter]

I’ve got 99 cents set aside for that Lemmy/Grohl/Gibbons track.
That headline is awesome.
Anyway, the original headbanger’s carol was “Christmas With The Devil” from Spinal Tap!!!
