This Just In: John McCain Doesn’t Hate All Celebrities–Just Those Who Don’t Want To Vote For Him

AP08082507124.jpgPeople are surprised by Daddy Yankee’s endorsement of John McCain, but really, shouldn’t the fact that the reggaeton singer’s New York City record-release party was sponsored by rightward-leaning piss substitute Coors Light have been a hint that dude isn’t exactly going door to door for [insert lefty cause here]? (And how well-timed is this press blitz around the release of his album, anyway? Some reporters just refuse to admit that they’re being played, I tell you.) Next thing you know, people will be shocked, shocked to relearn that Toby Keith is a Demo–sigh. [AFP]

    Can Daddy Yankee even VOTE for President? He’s Puerto Rican!

  2. by Mick Kraut at 11:02 am

    yes…Puerto Ricans possess US Citizenship and can vote in the Presidental election.

    @Mick Kraut: actually, no, they have no electoral votes. they can only vote in the party primaries.

    @amandacobra: Yeah. It’s sort of like when you read a gossip site that never posts about music and all of a sudden they care that Jewel is married or Melanie C is pregnant. It’s like… why?

    @Maura Johnston:

    Or they bother to mention that Jewel is a “singer/songwriter/poet”

    @thearcanemodel: @Mick Kraut: I think you’re both right. If a Puerto Rican lives in one of the 50 states (like, stereotypically, New York) they can vote, but if they still live in Puerto Rico, they can’t vote for President. Same for Guam, US Virgin Island, etc.

    Daddy Yankee and John McCain… a one-riddim musician for a one-note candidate…

    @How do I say this … THROWDINI!:

    I see…I always thought that they while they didnt have electoral college votes for a voting member of congress they still voted for President (much like DC)…my bad…

    I work in an industry that deals with the govt on a daily basis and when we hire personnel, US Citizenship is required…and we are allowed to hire Puerto Ricans…perhaps I took my assumption a “bridge too far”!

    It’s weird how in this case, a “celebrity” endorsing a candidate has served to remind me that the “celebrity” in question even existed. Wow, Daddy Yankee huh? Heavy hitter indeed.
