I think it's interesting that Metallica still gets crap over the Napster thing, like here, when what they were basically trying to do was protect their own interests. Hell, almost every piece on Metallica these days seems to have the "they still have fans even though they sued Napster for giving their music away for free?" angle...but then, they don't live in African mud huts, so I guess it's OK.

But, you know, the internet, and freedom and stuff. When you think about it, since we own computers and can afford high-speed connections, don't we DESERVE free music? And just because I download over twenty albums a month but only get to a show every few weeks, somehow that sporadic concert going justifies something something.

Now THAT's sarcasm.

Read a comment from a proud pirate the other day claiming that if an artist (he was a longtime fan, by the way) wanted to know poverty, he should try living in an African hut, for which he (I'm assuming this was a he) provided a photoshopped picture. Implying that because this artist was rich, it's a-ok to download for free. There was something so repugnant about the comment that I think it's actually killed off any remaining desire for this ex-Oinker to ever, ever, ever download an album for free.
