New Kids On The Block’s collaboration with Ne-Yo, “Single,” now has a video, and while the concept department is little more than the old “club stocked with hot women and lots of champagne” storyline but sorta sadder, it is kinda eye-opening as far as seeing just who sings what. I really swore that the first verse was sung by Ne-Yo, but it turns out that it’s Joe McIntyre! Danny Wood and Jonathan Knight are given almost nothing to do! Someone still thinks that the middle of an economic downturn is a good time to start a song with the old “If you ain’t got no money…” insult! Donnie Wahlberg is the rapper! (OK, OK, I probably should have figured that last bit out on my own, but I was really hoping for Danny to shock the world with his ability to spit.) [YouTube]

If Ne-Yo had any cred prior to this, it’s surely been erased. Wasn’t the “A Milli” freestyle enough for him to prove how not cool he is?
At least “Closer” is a fucking fantastic pop song. Not sure if it makes up for anything…
I love how in these new NKOTB videos you can almost set your watch by how carefully calibrated the screentime is for each member based on how well they’ve aged. “Joey, Jordan, lookin’ good, take your places in the front. Donnie, you’re a little wrinkly but you’re still in shape, go ahead and take your shirt off. Woah, Jonathan! Go sit in the back with Danny’s freakish Joker smile.”
@ITMS: Ne-Yo has never been cool. His whole appeal, if you ask me, is that he’s one of the dorkiest R&B stars ever, but still tries to dress sharp and do little dance steps.
There are entirely too many people in this video. I mean, Jon and Danny don’t even get to sing on the track but they have to bring in Ne-Yo. That has to be insulting.
I’m glad that they found a hat that manages to cover a good 60% of Danny’s face. Maybe for the next video he can wear a ski mask or something.
Omigod, Donnie Wahlberg is all kinds of SSSEEEXXXXYYYY!!!
