Amazon To Allmusic: “A-Wiki-What?”

soundunwound.pngOn Monday, Amazon launched the beta version of Sound Unwound, its new IMDB-for-music wiki interface, allowing you the viewer to change stuff. We can’t believe it either. Shocking new developments in Internet interfacing aside, this is a pretty nice-looking site: loads quickly, attractively boxy layout, etc. It ought to be interesting to see how its reader/contributors go about changing the entry of, say, the Beatles, but as we well know around here, the Internet is just full of surprises. This is a long time coming. For such a definitive source of information, allmusic has a lot of glaring errors. If they’re gonna lock their editorial content, they need to make sure it’s accurate. Glad that they’re giving up the fight on “closed-door” authority.

SoundUnwound has a lot of catching up to do in order to match All Music Guide’s wealth of info. It will be interesting to watch is progression. I’m wondering about the accuracy of SoundUnwound’s content since I’ve encountered incorrect info on Amazon many times (ie: track listing info). Yes, Halfwit has a point about AMG’s lack of perfection but I’ve been generally pleased with the site.
