Remember a while back when we asked you which bands’ works should be reinterpreted as classical music? We forgot to ask which contemporary artists who should go about reinterpreting of classical music itself. And if you’d said techno artists Carl Craig and Moritz Von Oswald, we’d have nodded our heads sagely. Well, guess what? That’s exactly who’ve taken the reins of the third volume of “ReConfigured,” a series on Deutsche Grammophon that does just what its name says–in this case, the works of Ravel and Mussorgsky will be made over. I’m still steamed over the almighty Carl Craig losing the “dance” grammy to Benny freakin’ Benassi this year. I mean seriously? That’s just gross.
I’ve been rocking “The Secret Tapes of Dr. Eich” by one of Craig’s best aliases, Paperclip People today–good LORD that’s an amazing album! And don’t even get me started on his ‘69′ project–woooo boy!
You know it’s true Matos! Back me up here…
Carl & Moritz are a couple of my most loved musicians in Electronic music. And yes, I’ll give this stuff a chance. But Bolero? I grew up playing in orchestras and man, I’d sooner stab out my eyes with rusty forks than play that ‘cello part again.
Hrm. I am keen to see what they can do with Bolero — I mean, it kind of does already kind of have the structure of a driving, epic techno track.
