The above photo of the new line of iPod Nanos brought out this comment from Maura: “This is what happens when you’re the type of person who arranges your CDs by color.” I wondered if I could do any better, especially because the Calvin Harris selection was a particular affront.
Here is the photo in its full-size glory:

James Blunt? Someone at Apple couldn’t think of a better album with a blue cover than the debut by James Blunt? In an effort to help out whoever’s designing Apple’s next presentation, here are my selections for album covers that match the iPod Nano’s new color line. (I decided to leave out black and silver, because those should be gimmes.)
Blue: The Avalanches, Since I Left You

Green: Belle & Sebastian, The Boy With The Arab Strap

Yellow: De La Soul, 3 Feet High and Rising

Orange: Broadcast, Work And Non Work
Pink: Sunny Day Real Estate, LP2

Red: Gang of Four, Entertainment!

I give up on purple. The first Smiths album? I have no idea.

Prince?
Purple Rain?
1999, duh.
I arrange my CDs by color…well, the ones that are actually arranged anyway. It makes one of my CD shelves actually look sorta pretty (compared to the ugliness of the others, anyway).
For blue, I would’ve gone with Echo and the Bunnymen’s Ocean Rain, or — big duh — Joni Mitchell’s Blue.
The Fluid has this covered:

i vote for lil mama for purple.
Ditch Sunny Day Real Estate for Boris and I’m on board.
Blue should definitely be Metallica’s ‘Ride the Lightning.’
Purple - Era Vulgaris, Queens of the Stone Age.
@Hamster-Style:
I like the cut of your jib.
I support all of your choices, Dan (esp. Avalanches! word!) with one switch: I’d put Belle and Sebastian on the orange iPod (If You’re Feeling Sinister) and replace the green iPod screen with the Housemartins’ London 0 Hull 4.
@Chris Molanphy:
“and replace the green iPod screen with the Housemartins’ London 0 Hull 4.”
Seconded.
@Chris Molanphy: I always though If You’re Feeling Sinister was red though? I suck with colors (thanks Dad!), but I’ve never thought that record was orange in the slightest.
Oh, and as much as I love SDRE, I think I’d have to take Loveless as the pink record.
how about sigur ros- Von for purple?
If the Apple folks are going for eternal hipness, maybe MBV’s Loveless for pink and PiL’s metal Box for Silver. You’re right: purple is a stumper. Maybe Eskimo by the Residents?
How long before Weezer comes out with its line of iPods?
