If the Apple folks are going for eternal hipness, maybe MBV’s Loveless for pink and PiL’s metal Box for Silver. You’re right: purple is a stumper. Maybe Eskimo by the Residents?

@Chris Molanphy: I always though If You're Feeling Sinister was red though? I suck with colors (thanks Dad!), but I've never thought that record was orange in the slightest.

Oh, and as much as I love SDRE, I think I'd have to take Loveless as the pink record.

I support all of your choices, Dan (esp. Avalanches! word!) with one switch: I'd put Belle and Sebastian on the orange iPod (If You're Feeling Sinister) and replace the green iPod screen with the Housemartins' London 0 Hull 4.
