lovelockdown.jpgThe studio version of Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” has made its debut on, somewhat predictably, the MC’s blog. I dig the heartbeat-as-bass-line idea, but not as much as I adore the deflated-balloon cover art. [kanYe West: Blog]

Wow. This can’t possibly be the studio version. Not only do his auto-tuned vocals STILL suck, it seems like he recorded it in one take. He cut a verse short to take a breath. Unless that’s what he’s going for. Boo to this.

I hate to say that this was better live, but it was better live.

    Wow. Super-yuck.

@loudersoft: Yah, I was defending it, like, “I’m sure the studio version’ll be better.”

I love the rhythm and bass-line of the song, but perhaps he should’ve produced this song for an actual singer… instead of auto-tuning it for himself. He’s not a singer.

I was dissapointed as well…still even if this is a finished cut, I think he could totally redeem himself in a big way by following this up with a mega hit, like Stronger or Good Life. Then we might all be like “oh, he’s branching out, but he’s still Yeezy!”. Based on the title of the record, and atypical nature of this song, I was wondering if this album might be his double album, his Speakerboxx/Love Below…. it might explain the soulful, experimental nature of the song. Keep making that platinum, and platinum and gold for me!

@DW: I could not agree more…it feels like it could be a great song with the right vocal interpretation.

This is Kanye’s “Billie Jean.” Yeah, the autotuned vocals are kinda meta (nonsinger-as-singer + technology as failed band-aid = commentary on what it means to be a singer), but I’m OK with that.

I still don’t like this song, and yet Kanye has found a way to have it be in my head all day/night. The man has powers.

This song would be GREAT if T-Pain were singing it. C’mon Kanye, can’t you put your ego aside in the name of art for once?
