“Wii Music” Creators Will Force Your Mind To Produce More Cowbell

Nintendo’s foray into the “miming music making with plastic objects” world, Wii Music, will be available in Japan next month, and as a sort of teaser, the makers have been releasing clips of people playing the game; above, someone demonstrates Wii Music’s “cowbell” function. Note the lack of extra peripherals involved: I have to say that this made me pretty excited, if only because the difference between these “instruments” and the ones offered by Guitar Hero and Rock Band seems similar to that between playing with a huge toy and transforming its box into a car, or a house, or whatever through the power of your mind. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are very, very, very dorky, but Wii Music just looks like a baby toy. At least GH and RB have some kind of video game skill to it, WM just seems like you shake it and it makes a noise, regardless of movement and timing.

@Dead Air ummm Dead Air: That would make Wii Music a lot more like actual instruments (if less like a video game).

@Dead Air ummm Dead Air: The sitar clip (linked at that fanboy site) would imply otherwise.

The sitar clip looked a little more interesting, but it didn’t show what you were were supposed to do with your other hand…if anything at all. If the fingering hand doesn’t do anything, then it’s more along the lines of the “baby toy” that Dead Air Ummm Dead Air is talking about.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is going to be awesome.
