SamanthaFoxStripPoker.gifI won’t detail the series of events that lead to discovering this… interesting factoid, but did you know that there was once a strip poker video game featuring ’80s pop vixen Samantha Fox? Who knew the British were only second to the Japanese when it came to porn-y 8-bit musical entertainment? [Your Sinclair]

    @Bob Loblaw:
    I’m already halfway there…which half however is subject to debate.

    Man what a blast from the past. A friend of mine had this on Commodore 64. We never got very far since we were about 8, and didn’t really have the poker skills needed to “win” the game. In the end we usually quit and popped in Airborne Ranger, the Winter Games, or sometimes the California Games. (I was mad rad on the BMX course)

    I am listening to Samantha Fox’s greatest hits right now in honor of this discovery.

    And I never realized how much ‘I Surrender (To The Spirit Of The Night)’ was “inspired by” Laura Branigan’s ‘Self-Control’!

    @maura: Ah, “Self-Control”…now there’s an underrated ’80s pop tour de force. Still love that, possibly even more than “Gloria.”

    Another interesting factoid? Norman Mailer invented the word
    “factoid” to describe “facts which have no existence before appearing
    in a magazine or newspaper,” and not, as it’s become accepted to mean,
    “odd, bite-sized facts.”

    @Bob Loblaw: Very cool. Sort of like “truthiness”, only with a higher literary pedigree.

    And then he punched his new creation right in the mouth!

    @Mick Kraut: That’s hilarious. I really want to become cartoonishly surly someday.
