@borntohula: Well, he said “10 years” in regards to when they will next come back to tour the U.K., not how long they’d take between albums, which I’m assuming will be a lot less time.
@Al Shipley: “a lot less time” being “when Dave Grohl sees his paycheck from the next Probot album”.
@Thierry: I wouldn’t mind him going through another period of wacky side projects and playing drums on other peoples’ albums for a while, tbh.
@Chris Molanphy: exactly.
@DocStrange: that would require Radiohead to release a single and/or show some vague interest in charts. i’d say the foos will get back together before then.
@Al Shipley: I agree - aside from the first FF album and the singles from the second one, I’ve always found him to be a far better drummer than a songwriter or frontman. That being said, I’d certainly rather hear him on the radio than Hinder or Buckcherry.
Seeya later, Joey Castillo.
(please?)
Seeya Later, Lars.
(SERIOUSLY, PLEASE?)
@enriquez the water bottle: You SAY “Hiatus” is rarely a good thing but your example indicates exactly the opposite!
Every time the Foo Fighters come out with a new album my immediate reaction is “Really? Still?”
Can we make a bargain where their “hiatus” means Sleater-Kinney’s “hiatus” ends?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
It’s about time for that Nirvana reunion.
This just means that we’ll be getting THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST OF FOO: 1995-2007 before a new studio album.
Bummer! I don’t understand the people who hate on the foos… what’s not to like?
I’d be pretty stoked if it were a permanent hiatus. I’m hard pressed to think of a more vanilla band.
they’re kinda wasting the momentum they’ve got right now, I’m pretty sure they could just go Nickelback and spin 3 or 4 more singles off this album and keep scoring hits.
@rockstarjoe: Their music
@tim_loves_cats: Seriously? I don’t own a single Foo album, but I have to remind you that Coldplay and Nickleback both exist.
Foos are by far one the least-evil evils overplayed on modern-rock radio. I think their sophomore album is near-great, and with the exception of the ‘05 album, I’ve found at least one track to like/love on each of their records.
In short, if I may echo janine, Foo Fighters are the Chuck Schumer of modern rock: overexposed and kinda whorish, but fundamentally on my side.
well maybe they’ll come back and make an awesome album (says my inner 11 year old).
this hiatus doesnt really surprise me much though. i think all of them are dads now… initially dave was saying they’d take a long break after they finished touring that double album, but they decided to continue on that “momentum” like al shipley had mentionned, and gave us the shitpile that was echoes, silence, patience and grace.
… but i do find it kinda strange that the time period dave apparently gave NME is 10 years…
oh well. only good can come from this. here’s hoping dave starts drumming again and does some guest work.
Foo Fighters are taking a break you say? Now maybe Radiohead will finally get a #1 single on the Modern Rock charts!
“Hiatus” is rarely a good thing.
System of a Down are technically on “hiatus,” but what (admittedly little) I’ve heard points to them being broken up already.
@insideoutbox: No it doesn’t. Two of Radiohead’s three entries into the Modern Rock Top 10 - “Optimistic” (#10) and “Bodysnatchers” (#8) - were never issued as singles (the third - for the curious - is “Creep” which hit #2). Modern Rock Tracks (and all the other genre charts Billboard does) are based on radio airplay alone.
good.
@TriedandTrue: Eh, I liked System. Not for everyone, of course, but I liked ‘em.
