Buy Me This Record Cabinet And I Will Be Your Friend Forever And Ever, And Maybe Give You Backrubs

This custom-built record cabinet comes via Atocha Design, and it’s apparently very customizable; designer Jen Levin Atocha will craft drawers for records of the 12-inch and 7-inch variety, as well as DVDs and CDs, in your choice of wood. Of course, the starting price for one of these babies is $12,500. But we all have to mature from the milk-crate/cobbled-together-Ikea world of shelving sometime, and what better way to do that than to blow a lot of cash? (What do you want me to do, buy a house? Hahaha!) [Apartment Therapy; HT mishaps]

*Gasp* I WANT! I’m half-tempted to fund this by selling my record collection — a misguided attempt to Gift of the Magi myself, if you will.

That McIntosh pre-amp, while not exactly practical, sure looks pretty on that cabinet.

Are you implying that the crates they give out for free at post office when you pretend you run a legitimate business aren’t as attractive as I think they are?

@tim_loves_cats: Those things are definitely hot. Although the designer of this would probably disagree. The bottom of the website says “Milk crates are for milk. The Atocha Design record cabinet is for storing records.” Now that’s no fun.

@MayhemintheHood: Milk crates are for socks and underwear, postal tubs are for records. Everyone fun knows that.

There are other options for stylish, high-quality vinyl storage that don’t run into the five figures:

I have a bunch of the modular 45 drawers (now discontinued - sadness!) and LP racks and have been using them happily for at least 10 years.

Milk crates are not actually big enough to house a 12″ LP jacket. The crappy fake milk crates they sell at Bed Bath and Beyond are slightly larger, but they are also flimsy, so if you try to stack too many of them in a shelf-like manner, you can end up with a floor full of LPs.

@ITMS: A $12,000 hand job is not “easy.”

I read this title as “Buy Me This Record Cabinet And I Will Be Your Friend Forever And Ever, And Maybe Give You Handjobs”, and then I thought “Whoa, Maura’s getting easy.”
