Heavy D, Reggae Star?

Last night, I was listening to a mix of Teddy Riley tracks while driving across Arizona, and when Guy’s “Do Me Right” came on, I wondered what Heavy D had been up to lately. Although his last post-Boyz album Heavy wasn’t a huge success, the entire disc had solid producers providing the beats, and a track with Chico DeBarge, which was enough to have me handing over cash to purchase it. Since then, Heavy focused on his acting game with a regular stint on The Tracy Morgan Show, and appearances on Bones and Yes Dear. While his return to music isn’t the return to hip-house that I would have preferred, it’s not too bad, and since Heavy D was born in Kingston, moving into reggae is a legitimate career turn. I’ll definitely miss his “Overweight Lover” persona, though. (We’ll always have Peaceful Journey.) [MySpace]
