Last night’s Polaris Prize ceremony in Toronto had a vastly better outcome than the Canadian Idol final, in that it selected a talented winner who won’t likely embarrass the entire nation. Congratulations to Caribou, the one-man project of doctor of mathematics and electronic music artist Dan Snaith.
Snaith mentioned that he would use the $CDN20,000 to purchase a trip into space, which I’m almost certain was code for “I’m going to spend this entire check on drugs.” (I could be wrong.) Caribou joins 2006 winner Final Fantasy and 2007 recipient Patrick Watson in the legion of Polaris Prize victors. In case you haven’t been up on your maple leaf rock, here are two selections from the officially award-winning Andorra.

I have nothing to say about this, but I just wanted to post that Shooby Talyor song again, because it makes me smile on the inside:
Not to be too obnoxious, but wouldn’t your sister site be L’Idolator? Or perhaps, L’Idolateur? /former French major
It’s probably just his voice, but this sounds like a more depressed Ben Folds dabbling in electronica.
