D’Angelo Finds His Smile Again (Maybe) (Perhaps)

I suspect that a few of you out there will be very psyched to hear that D’Angelo has released what they’re calling a “buzz single” to iTunes, in anticipation of the possibly eventual release of his third album. (I’m guessing that “buzz single” is code for “a song that’s released expressly for the purposes of sparking blog posts like this one.”) “I Found My Smile Again” is a looser, more raucous version of the song he recorded for the Space Jam soundtrack in 1996. D’Angelo also appeared on a new Q-Tip track that hit the Internet this week, so maybe there is something to this whole “no, really, his record’s going to be ready before decade’s end” thing. Sounds to me like just another cynical cash-in on America’s enduring love affair with all things Space Jam.

@Al Shipley: Agreed. D’Angelo’s “new album” is R&B’s Chinese Democracy.

And D’Angelo was also featured on a Common track last year. I’ll believe that next album exists the day I hold it in my hands.

@slowburn: Aw man, that was low. My man D might have some issues, but he hasn’t hit Axl Rose status–yet, anyway…
