I kind of wish that the US would embrace the “slightly brassier version of old-school soul” pop aesthetic that is embodied by “The Promise,” the new single from UK girl-group stalwarts Girls Aloud, instead of the bulldozer-like robo-stomps that have been topping our charts for the past too-many months.
