Annie Plays Her Trump Card

ARTIST: Annie
TITLE: “Two Of Hearts”
WEB DEBUT: Oct. 2, 2008

ONE-LISTEN VERDICT: The Norwegian pop singer’s long-rumored cover of Stacey Q’s hi-NRG classic–produced by Richard X–is pretty straightforward, with an extra freestyle-styled breakdown near the end and Annie’s slightly chilled voice taking the place of Ms. Q’s come-hither southern California drawl. One bit of bad news came along with this leak, though: Apparently Annie’s label has decided to push back her forthcoming album Don’t Stop, which leaked over the summer, to–wait for it–April 2009. Which I guess means they’re going to scrap the leaked version and start over, because honestly, what the hell?

WHERE TO FIND IT: Discobelle. And, just for good measure, here’s the original :

    I can’t wait to listen to that album on my space-ipod when we all live on the moon.

    @brasstax: Maybe now they’ll have time to reconsider the awful Robyn-lite cover art.

    @jetsetjunta: Yeah, with my grandkids.

    @brasstax: It’s a terrible strategy. These ARE labels we are talking about here, so keep that in mind.

    @Nunya B: Well yeah, that’s a potential plus.

    @Lucas Jensen: I’m pretty sure the label was keeping an eye on response to the leak, and it’s been lukewarm at best. A retooling is inevitable.

    @brasstax: Which is stupid because it’s a REALLY FUN album but I guess Xenomania backlash is in full swing at this point so WHAT EVER. I’m getting cheese fries.

    I haven’t listened to the whole album, but with the excepcion of “Girlfriend” all the songs I’ve heard SUCK ASS. Sorry, Annie, I love you, but camman, “Loco”?

    “Marie Cherie”, “When the Night” and “What Do You Want” are also pretty cool. But yeah, it’s no Anniemal.

  10. Wow, this is not nearly as good as I hoped it would be. The worst thing is that it doesn’t seem like you could dance to this; in fact, I bet it would be a floor clearer.

    Listening to this made me go back to a bunch of her old songs and I gotta ask, does she kill herself at the end of the Me Plus one? Because the James Iha Remix ends with a gunshot like noise and the original with a car crash noise
