Which Fourth-Quarter Release Are You Most Looking Forward To?

I know, I know, some people want us to break the tyranny of release dates, but the ever-increasing evidence that the final three months are going to be a last gasp of sorts for the big, blockbuster album is just too good to resist this afternoon. And given that Q4 ‘08 has just begun, and there are many records on the docket for the coming weeks, I figured I’d ask: What not-yet-released album (or albums) are you most excited to play the crap out of over the next couple of months? Sure, it’s a tough question, and leak culture has made the whole idea of anticipating a certain album on a certain day much harder, but I’m still interested in seeing what you all want to hear. To help you out, I’ve listed some of the releases from the forthcoming weeks after the jump. (Note No. 1: It’s a very partial list, so don’t get mad if your most anticipated album isn’t on there. Note No. 2: Yes, I know that pretty much everything that’s coming out in the next week and a half has leaked, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t be excited. I mean, what happened to joy, man?)

For the record, my answers are:

    Kanye
    Love Is All
    Kelly C
    Fall Out Boy
    Wilderness (man I love them)

… and Guns N’ Roses, although I’ll miss all of you after that makes the world turn in on itself.

  2. by at 6:24 am

    Britney! Britney Britney Britney!

Seriously, though, Britney. Blackout was teh shit.

Next (in no particular order) is Kanye, Jay-Z, and probably about 50% of the Kelly Clarkson and Ciara albums.

Um, I think Missy’s album was pushed back, maybe even to 2009? Otherwise, that would be at or near the top of my list.

  3. by ITMS at 7:09 am

Am I the only person who is SUPER-PSYCHED about Thr33 Rings??

    I love me some T-Pain.

  4. by Aleb at 7:31 am

@ITMS: not super excited, but after hearing “Chopped ‘N’ Screwed” I’m definitely anticipating.

    My picks are:

Q-Tip, The Renaissance (if it doesn’t get shelved. You never know…)
    T-Pain, Thr33 Ringz
    Girls Aloud, Tangled Up
    Kid Sister, Dream Date
    Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak
    Jay-Z, Blueprint 3
    Britney Spears, Circus

I’m faking interest for this other batch of albums (since the last releases from these artists weren’t exactly great):

    Sugababes, Catfights & Spotlights
    John Legend, Evolver
    Common, Universal Mind Control
    The Killers, Day & Age

Also, Fiddy’s album, because I believe in the power of positive thinking. And oh, I think Big Boi’s album has no release date because the single with Mary J. Blige is flopping. And, seriously, Keri Hilson’s debut either will never come out, or nobody will notice.

My wife is going to want to hear the Streets, Tom Jones, and Big Boi. I’ve heard the Streets album so I think we may be buying Tom Jones and Big Boi. Moderately curious about Missy, Lucinda Williams (though the post-Car Wheels stuff I’ve heard hasn’t thrilled me), and The Cure.

  6. by scarletvirtue at 7:35 am

    My answers:

    John Legend
    P!nk
    Fall Out Boy
    Kelly Clarkson
    The Killers

  7. by dippinkind at 7:53 am

honestly, toby keith followed by britney spears (which also reminds me that britney really oughta record a country album someday)

  8. by T'Challa at 7:57 am

    Tied for 1st: Kayne West & Jay-Z

    2. Common

    3. Deerhunter

    4. Q-Tip

    5. Of Montreal

    6. Kid Sister (come on girl, you can do it!)

    7. AC/DC –just because…

*Of course, “Chinese Democracy” is pretty high on this list, but I’ll believe it when I see it…

  9. by unperson at 7:58 am

Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC and Pink, in that order. All the rest of those artists could die in a Calcutta ferry-flip tomorrow and my world/listening habits would be totally unchanged.

  10. by Lucas Jensen at 8:16 am

Too bad I’ve heard leaks of a lot of these. Deerhunter is really good, but I can’t say I anticipate since I heard it five months ago (don’t give albums to your friends). I’m biased but Ruby Isle is also amazing.

Like everybody, Jay-Z and Kanye and Britney. Also, The Cure and Deerhoof. And the Fireman for curiosity’s sake. And Sammy Hagar because if I say this he will give me tequila.

I would rather eat my own earlobes than listen to the Streets.

  11. by D.R. Mosby at 8:22 am

Even though it’s already available digitally, I’ll still wait a few weeks to buy the CD of Microcastle by Deerhunter. I dunno, I’m old school and I like having the physical object, not just the files.

And I even though haven’t been 100% thrilled by what I’ve heard so far from Flashy by Electric Six, I also remember that I didn’t quite get Señor Smoke when I first heard it and now I think it’s great.

  12. by at 8:22 am

@unperson: Well, that was a completely unnecessary comment.

Jay-Z, Kanye, and Beyonce. Big Boi’s album title is wonderful (srsly, I’m naming my son Chico Dusty), but my expectations for the songs aren’t high. I expect to be mildly intrigued by the Ryan Adams album, but only mildly.

Also, weren’t Secret Machines supposed to have a new album this year? Where is it??

  13. by kicking222 at 8:24 am

I can’t say I’m amazingly excited about anything coming out this year, but there are artists in that bunch I certainly care about. Common is generally excellent, Q-Tip is generally excellent, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan are Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan, The Killers have flashes of brilliance… and that’s about it for me.

If I ever, in a million years, have to hear the Britney, High School Musical, Nickelback, 50 Cent, American Idol (any and all), country (ditto), Hinder, or Sammy Hagar solo albums, I will literally tear my ears off my own head. Literally.

  14. by fabulousrobots at 8:41 am

    Land of Talk (October 7th)!

Other than that, I will probably purchase the Ryan Adams. Can’t.Stop.Buying.His.Records. Maybe Deerhoof and Love is All too.

  15. by Dick Laurent is dead. at 8:43 am

    Wilderness
    Love Is All
    Of Montreal

And I guess it came out today, but I’ll go in for the new Dead Science record as well.

  16. f.y.i. the name of the new girls aloud album is called out of control. tangled up came out last year.

  17. by at 9:05 am

    GNR. That’s it.

  18. by PengIn at 9:50 am

I don’t know if it will make it out this year or not, but tops on my list is the new Bakerton Group. Other than that, I’ll definitely grab the new Early Man, AC/DC and Dido and I’ll probably pick up the new Pretenders album. I’m going to steal the Queen/Paul Rodgers thing because I’m guessing it will suck the lights out of the place.

    Also, GNFR.

  19. by LeighBlack at 10:39 am

Pink, Fall Out Boy and, ummm, John Barrowman’s new album.

  20. by The Van Buren Boys at 10:59 am

    1. Big Boi
    2. The Streets (not a big fan of the last album, but we’ll see
    3. Of Montreal
    4. Kanye

Not a whole that really interests me, but I will also probably check out the series of singles The Decemberists are releasing.

  21. by CreativeUnderclass at 11:16 am

Is Detox allegedly still coming out this year?

    Mine are:
    Kanye
    Jay-Z
    Ludacris
    Kid Sister
    Big Boi
    Of Montreal
    50 Cent
    The Killers
    Common
    Holly Golightly
    The Streets
    Comedy GNR Option

  22. by BillRocksCleveland at 11:45 am

    G’N'M’F'N’R

On point 2. It was a little sad that when I looked at the new release wall at Music Saves in Cleveland I could basically check off everything interesting as got it (F’d Up, Jay Reatard, Deerhoof, Marnie Stern, Dungen, Mercury Rev). So, I walked out with the Jesus and Mary Chain box set. F’n promos making me spend too much money, again.

  23. by ObtuseIntolerant at 11:58 am

    GNR! Completely.

Kanye has me a bit besotted. Against my better judgment.

Mebbe FOB…though I have no history with them besides finding Pete Wentz confoundingly charming.

  24. by KurticusMaximus at 1:06 am

I’ll probably enjoy FOB’s the most, since I have yet to dislike an album of their particular brand of pop punk. Plus, anything with a Debby Harry cameo is automatically awesome.

Otherwise, Electric Six, because regardless of how good the album is, it means they’re touring again.

But mostly, GnR. Because if that album actually comes out this fall, then nothing else will matter at all.

  25. by propaganda-artist at 1:27 am

    Beyonce.
    Kelly Clarkson.
    Britney.
    Deerhoof.
    Kid Sister.
    Kanye.

  26. by Oldboy at 1:29 am

    Pretenders!

  27. by at 1:45 am

Is Kelly’s really coming out Nov 18th? Because that makes 4 albums I intend to buy coming out on one day. Overload.

I always look forward to whatever Britney puts out. That doesn’t mean I’ll intend to spend money on it. I’m just interested in hearing it.

Considering the state of the economy and general world anxiety, I would say “the day the world ends” is looking more and more likely to happen by the end of this calendar year, which means there will in fact be a GNR album, and liberty and Dr Pepper for all.

  28. by bcapirigi at 2:46 am

i think my year of anticipation and excitement is probably going to end this tuesday with juana molina and the rosebuds.* though that britney single’s pretty hot, isn’t it?

(*by which i mean sometime in 2014 when i have the money to buy cds again.)

  29. by DocStrange at 2:51 am

My list in order of want:
    1. Los Campesinos! We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed (out November 11 in the US)
    2. The Cure 4:13 Dream
    3. Deerhunter Microcastle
    4. The Streets Everything is Borrowed
    5. Kaiser Chiefs Off With Their Heads (although I have a really suspicious feeling that it’s going to suck, although the first single is pretty good)
    6. Oasis Dig Out Your Soul
    7. Snow Patrol A Hundred Million Sun (see #5)
    8. Guns ‘n’ Roses Chinese Democracy (I don’t even like Guns ‘n’ Roses, but I want this CD just to say I have one).

  30. by D.R. Mosby at 3:17 am

@KurticusMaximus: Electric Six, because regardless of how good the album is, it means they’re touring again.

According to the Wikipedia entry for E6, there is supposed to be a B-sides / rarities collection called Sexy Trash which will only be sold at shows on the upcoming tour. (I couldn’t find any other confirmation for this yet, however.)

  31. by Roundtown at 3:58 am

Oasis, Keane, Pink, Snow Patrol mostly.

I’ve heard that the Kelly C. album is slated for February now.

  32. by sicksteanein at 4:32 am

Sorry if this is off topic but I miss those end of the week summary posts Idolator used to do on Fridays.

Why did those stop? I always enjoyed sitting back on Friday after work and taking a trip through the week that was.

  33. by at 5:57 am

    DETOXXXXXXX

  34. by walkmasterflex at 6:07 am

    @sicksteanein: i agree!

also i’m looking forward to seeing luscious left-foot on the shelves, and of course detox and chinese democracy

  35. by KrAzy Che3To at 10:19 am

I’m definitely looking forward to Sugababes, P!nk, Big Boi, Keri Hilson, Ludacris, T-pain, Beyonce, Kelly, Kanye West and Ciara. So I guess that’s a lot.

BTW I think it’s ‘Out Of control’ from Girls Aloud rather than their previous Tangled Up.

  36. by at 10:59 am

To be honest, Kid Sister. That’s gotta be good. Big Boi, Q-Tip, Missy, Beyoncé, Ciara, Jigga and Kanye might all deliver, but I’m waiting and seeing, I still hope the Green Gartside (Scritti Politti) & Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) collabo will see the light of day. That I’m *really* looking forward to.

  37. by Eugene Langley at 11:09 am

Max Tundra - Parallax Error Beheads You
    and
    Kanye.

  38. by at 11:45 am

I am genuinely looking forward to Cornell’s solo album (I’m convinced the whole will sound better than the chopped up singles). After that it’s Fall Out Boy and Kanye.

I’m also kinda itching for a Dr. Pepper, so add GNR to that list.

  39. by sicksteanein at 12:37 pm

If I hadn’t been listening to the leak already, it would be Of Montreal.

    Also:
    Fall Out Boy
    Kelly Clarkson
    Britney

  40. by doublewhiskycokenoice at 3:00 am

i personally am beyond jazzed for The Bronx’s new album, as well as their mariachi companion album. And Dillinger Four’s “C I V I L W A R”, b/c six years between albums is far too long.

Hey, punk doesn’t get a fair shake on this site. I’m not asking that you start repping obscure gems like Career Suicide or The Exploding Hearts left and right, but you know. Show some love.

  41. by Al Shipley at 6:05 am

My top 10 in rough order of anticipation: John Legend, Parts & Labor, Ryan Leslie, Pink, T-Pain, The Pretenders, Fall Out Boy, Freeway, Statik Selektah, Kanye.

  42. by seeohhellbeewhy at 7:21 am

I was excited about the new Fucked Up, except rhapsody is streaming it for free, so there goes that. If Royal Flush is any indication, the new Big Boi is going to be incredible, and I have high hopes for The Renaissance.

  43. by mcjhn at 8:42 am

the new Euro Childs (Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci) album will be good, he recorded it in nashville! out on 28/10

  44. by at 1:33 am

the new Wilderness album is amazing.

  45. by at 3:11 am

Kelly Clarkson, The Killers and my heart did a backflip when I read Girls Aloud is getting released here.

  46. by Al Shipley at 8:46 am

Also, thank you for posting a picture of Kanye in those stupid-ass glasses to remind me that he’s just too full of bad ideas these days to drop an album as good as his first 2.

  47. by MrStarhead at 9:12 am

    Electric Six, Killers, Oasis.

  48. by Lucas Jensen at 9:31 am

@mcjhn: Wow! Thanks for that tip!

  49. by jus10j at 12:18 pm

    Definitely FOB;

    Probably give The Killers a shot, since I actually liked “Sam’s Town” (much to my surprise);

    As far as the rap albums, it’ll probably be my typical experience with Missy, Big Boi, Luda, and Kanye: I’ll just get a few of the songs on the album, since they’ve never merited a full-album purchase;

    Keane gets at least a listen;

And didn’t 50 say he would stop making music if Kanye beat him last time? What a liar. Couldn’t even do everyone a favor and live up to his own threat.

  50. by LeBron at 1:55 am

I can’t believe ya’ll are sleeping on David Archuleta’s joint! I’ll be kicking that all winter, man.

Besides that one, of course there’s Kanye. Try and hate on him, he’ll just take over the world again. Probably will be compelled to get Jay-Z. John Legend’s some good chillin’ music. And I didn’t even know about Scott Weiland, I’ll mess with that.
