The Killers took to the Saturday Night Live stage over the weekend, where they garnered the distinction of being the season’s first musical act that wasn’t completely torpedoed by whoever was working the show’s sound. And I really enjoyed the pogo-inducing track “Spaceman,” which brings together shout-along “oh oh ohs” and Duran Duran-level basslines and is just a bit too long, but still pretty goofy fun. (Sure, Brandon Flowers’ voice is straining on the high notes, but that sort of thing can always be fixed in post.) “Human” after the jump.

Have to agree Spaceman had me bouncing, but Human is a piece of crap. Brandon did look boneriffic tho, even with the bizarro bird feathers.
Damn – you’d think this dude would’ve taken some vocal lessions between albums.
Apparently I hate ‘fun’. This is dreck.
@JZ13: If you hated Duffy, wait for Adele in two weeks! Seriously, the SNL musical guest lists looks more like the UK Top 40 than ever before this season.
@MrStarhead: Eh…at least Adele can hold a note. I’m still waiting for them to toss in some zingers, like Iron Maiden or something.
The musical guest couldn’t have gotten any worse than that Duffy creature.
@owenmeany: Brandon’ll never be the greatest singer in the world, but at least he’s improved since this:
And it seems they’ve gone back to writing proper choruses, too…
Are we human, or are we douchebags?
@Dick Laurent is dead.: I’m with you in the anti-fun camp. They were awful.
I’ve finally come down on the side of ‘amazing’ with Human, after figuring out that the nonsense lyric is endearing rather than irritating (seriously, try it!).
Spaceman sounds like Bat Out Of Hell-scale HUGE. It makes sense, given their prior Springsteen appropriations, that when Stuart Price got involved he’d be the Jim Steinman of the piece.
Count me as another who likes Human a bunch. And to me, The Killers haven’t done squat worth talking about since the first album.
