Meet BC Jean, the California singer-songwriter who wrote Beyonce’s gramatically correct wish to grow a pair for a day, “If I Were A Boy.” Jean, who idolizes Gwen Stefani and is young enough to be one of those performers who was “influenced” by Britney Spears, has her take on the track streaming from her MySpace page, and one listen to her version reveals why she was smart to make her money selling “Boy” instead of performing it–dropped h’s and a reedy voice that gets scratchy when it hits the high notes are just two of the reasons. Easy on the girl, Maura. I’m sure if she was working with Beyonce’s producers, she’d sound just as good, if not better.
@owenmeany: would they teach her how to pronounce her ‘h’s? i mean really. that’s like singing 101.
this just continues the question of beyonce being known as a songwriter. when you read her interviews, she insinuates that she’s been writing every single song that’s escaped her lips since the writing’s on the wall. didn’t ne-yo have to come out publicly (heh) to remind mrs. knowles that he was the one who wrote “irreplaceable”?
i don’t know, bee’s albums have always been weak to me. the only singles i like are the ones she releases. however, that doesn’t seem to be the case with “if i were a boy” especially since ciara did this eighteen months ago.
I actually think it’s pretty good, at least her voice has some personality, unlike the human hologram thay is Beyonce,
worryingly similar to ‘one of us’ by joan osborne, tho.
lol, spoke too soon. flipped to the mtvs a few times today, so now i’ve heard the beyonce like 5 times. yay.
aw, this chick’s music is pretty cute. haven’t heard the beyonce version cuz i think she kind of sucks. : /
