What’s a bigger sign of the Pussycat Dolls’ desperation: The fact that there’s already a third single from their quickly fading new album, the “Big Girls Don’t Cry”-like weeper “I Hate This Part” (in which alpha Doll Nicole Scherzinger tries to go the Serious Sad Singer Playing Piano On A Beach route, I guess to confuse fans of sensitive-dude bands); or Scherzinger’s assertion that Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin would make a great addition to the group because “she seems like a headstrong woman, a tough chick. And she’s hot.” What, no mention of Palin’s flute prowess, Nicole? I mean, it’s not like you’re going to let her sing. [YouTube / Huffington Post]

In the current industry climate, multiple singles from an album by the time it’s released (or a month old or whatever) is just kind of standard practice, and not in and of itself a symptom of failure or desperation. It happens sometimes when the album is huge (like Paper Trail), sometimes when it isn’t (like Demolition Doll Nimrods). You can do your victory dance when Interscope pulls the plug on all promotions, which will probably only be a couple months off anyway.

The first single came out way back in June, right? So isn’t it about time for a third single, regardless of when the album came out?

Also, it seems like a good part of the backlash for this album is the revelation that a) half these songs were supposed to be on Her Name is Nicole, and b) Scherzinger sings every note on the album, and the other four are eye candy relegated to the bonus disc.
