Tim McGraw Lucky In Love, Unlucky In Labels

October 14th, 2008 // 4 Comments

It’s hard to feel too bad for Tim McGraw, since he’s an incredibly successful artist with ten platinum albums, but he’s still signed to one of the most oppressive record deals ever with Curb, one of the weirdest major label subsidiaries. Turns out McGraw had a new album in the can, but his label wants to drag out his deal for just a little bit longer, so that release, previously scheduled for this year, has been pushed back for a third greatest hits collection that has precisely zero new material and is only separated from McGraw’s last greatest-hits package by one studio album. McGraw is less than thrilled: “I am saddened and disappointed that my label chose to put out another hits album instead of new music…The whole concept is an embarrassment to me as an artist.” Sounds like they might have trouble getting Tim to put pen to paper on a contract extension. i noticed the Tim McGraw Greatest Hits Volume 3 when i was looking thru particularly cheap albums in the Amazon mp3 store yesterday – it may not have any new material, but it is selling for $2.99
