Oh No, John Taylor, Not You Too

What is it about Barack Obama that possesses even the coolest people to do really silly things on YouTube? John Taylor was always my favorite member of Duran Duran for multiple reasons–well, OK, mainly because he was really really cute (and still is!)–but slap bass + weak rhymes about Barack Obama + semi-sheepish “well I can’t vote but I’m telling you, he’s the man for the job, seriously” disclaimers all add up to a look that is not very good at all. It’s like the Internet and the Presidential election and my childhood heroes are all conspiring to make me go completely crazypants before Nov. 4. [YouTube via Videogum]

'Glee's Darren Criss, Matt Bomer to Duet on Duran Duran Mash-Up
"We are family, I got all my [brothers] with me, We are family, Get up everybody and sing." I figure this is the most fitting tune for what's about to happen on Glee: a duet among family, or brothers to be exact. As TVLine reports, "A show source says the ...

He looks like the “in-between” phase of Davy Jones morphing into Mark Owen.

Also, this clip proves once again that the only acceptable moment to do a bass solo is during the breakdown of “My Generation”.

I never really thought of “I Want You” or “M’Lady” as bass solos – the first one has that neat little 6-note riff, and the second one has a really cool bassline – and I’ll grant you Rik Kenton’s (I think) solo…but he’s still not The Ox. And, I’m sure we can all agree, neither is John Taylor.

@Thierry: What about “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”? That’s pretty hot. Or “M’lady” by Sly & the Family Stone? Or “Re-Make/Re-Model” by Roxy Music? I like all of those bass solos.
