Four months ago, Long Blondes guitarist Dorian Cox suffered a stroke that caused him to lose movement in some parts of his body. The band has since broken up, with Cox explaining that he’s unsure when he’ll be well enough to play guitar again. It’s a pretty tragic story, and an unfortunate fate for a fantastic band. Here’s the video for “Century,” from their underappreciated final album Couples. [The Long Blondes MySpace Blog / YouTube]

Agreed on the fantasticness, and here’s hoping singer Kate Jackson gets that stellar solo career off the ground that I had been picturing for her all along.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Shit. I had ‘em pegged for Blondie-dom, too.
I own both of their albums. Shame that they weren’t as successful here in America. Sucks too. This year has been filled with the breakups and/or “long hiatuses” of bands I like. A partial list: Be Your Own Pet, ¡Forward, Russia!, Mumm-Ra, Monkey Swallows The Universe, Moros Eros, The Dirty Pretty Things, This Et Al and The Format. And now The Long Blondes.
This is sad news – the first album still sounds great, and I expect the second one to sound better and better with time. Also, they were one of the best-looking bands I have ever seen live.
