Kanye West will bring his indie saddo act to next month’s American Music Awards, where he’ll share the stage with Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, and the Fray–remember The Fray?–while waiting on pins and needles to see if he beat Flo Rida in the “Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist” balloting. Also, he leaked the mastered version of “Heartless” via… his Twitter. Yes, really. [Pop & Hiss / Twitter]

I remember The Fray, but only because I heard them in the supermarket last night and thought “is it 2006 again?”
Man, the Fray. I often think while reading Billboard or other industry rags that the business is often giving awards/showcases to acts that did something huge on the radio, like eons ago. (Have you ever seen the ads congratulating the winners of, like, the ASCAP awards or similar? They’re just getting around to giving statues to people like Daniel Powter and James Blunt now.)
@Chris Molanphy: The AMAs’ booking is strange that way. The awards are all giving out stuff from last year, but the performances are all there to promote current/upcoming releases.
Of course, when they do look forward, they tend to have a leaden touch:
I missed the Fray…perhaps I am above them. Hur hur.
OK, off to YouTube.
