“Multi-platinum pop group Backstreet Boys, with Tampa native Nick Carter, will perform the U.S. National Anthem prior to Game One of the 2008 World Series at Tropicana Field. Grammy Award-winning group Los Lonely Boys will perform the U.S. National Anthem prior to Game Two of the 2008 World Series.” Los Lonely Boys? Really? C’mon, even Dashboard Confessional is from Florida, you guys. [MLB.com]
I Hope The Rays’ On-Field Performance During The World Series Is Better Than Their Taste In Pre-Game Music

Also from Tampa:
Khia
2 Pistols
Morbid Angel
Automatic Loveletter (nb not very good)
as well as The Outlaws
AND…

@dippinkind: Something tells me that inviting him to perform would be too big of a reminder of the Bad Old Canseco Days.
@Maura Johnston: a boy can dream, though
Not from Tampa, but Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are from Gainesville…
iced earth performs the most aggravating national anthem ever if the series goes to game 5
george mccrae!
l’trimm!
@walkmasterflex: Game 5 will be in Philadelphia. I’m thinking Hall & Oates or Beanie Sigel.
P.S. Go Phils!
It would only be a truly Tampa moment if, before Game 1, they dimmed the lights at the Trop and the Rays were led onto the field by this guy, with this song:

And if the Rays lose the series at home, this is the track they go out on:

@Thierry:
It’s bad enough that the Rays have to play in a state where baseball is an afterthought and there’s no real hometown rock and roll talent to bring in a band from a town that’s, from what I gather, ALL ABOUT football.
If the Phillies can Hall & Oates, they will wrap up the WS.
@How do I say this … THROWDINI!: Especially since Carl Lewis could probably hit more notes than the BK’s singer…
Well, the Tampa Bay choices are better than the ones chosen to represent St. Louis in ’04 and ’06. I will never forgive the person who booked Scott Stapp to sing “God Bless America” at Busch Stadium during the 2004 World Series. So. Embarrassing. Not to mention, Creed’s not from anywhere near St. Louis–they’re from Florida! Good think they broke up before the Rays made the World Series…
@I’m Crushing Your Head: Well, Alter Bridge is still around, so don’t count your Christian rock bands before they… er, break up.
@Thierry: Aren’t The Black Kids from somewhere over there? How funny would it be to see a them push a danced-up National Anthem? I’m going with “very.”
see, if only the Cubs and the White Sox could’ve held on…
