The No. 2 name for babies in New York City last year: “Jayden,” which wasn’t even on the list’s top 10 in 2006. What inspired this name to get a bullet on the Hot Baby 100? “Britney Spears seems to have shifted the standard spelling. That name used to be spelled every which way, but now the ‘y’ spelling has become dominant,” “baby name expert” Laura Wattenberg says. [City Room via Gothamist]

Was Jayden a name in 2006?
Of all the bad trendy names ever, this is the worst.
Isn’t there something meth can do about this?
@Lucas Jensen: Jaden was, starting in 1988… thanks to Will Smith.
I now have a Jayden in my family (a cousin had a kid), and I really hope Brit-Brit wasn’t his inspiration.
We know a Jada and several Jalen/Jaelyn/Hayden/Cadens…and a Cadence. I don’t know. And they come in all genders!!!
So glad I chose an old fashioned name for my baby.
