A year back, the saga of the DeBarge family was the subject of a lengthy feature in Vibe. The family group’s compass was Eldra, better known as El, who wrote, produced, and sang lead on many of DeBarge’s hits, and mostly stayed out of the kind of trouble his brother Chico seemed to attract most easily. But El was charged last year on a drug case, and now he’s been sentenced to two years in the California state prison at Lancaster for violating his parole, adding a sad update to the Vibe piece.
