Tokio Hotel Drummer Really Embracing The Rock And Roll Lifestyle

Tokio Hotel, the “famous on the Internet” band of German mope-rockers, have had a clean-cut image… until now, anyway. No, pretty boy singer Bill Kaulitz hasn’t revealed that he’s actually an animatronic Real Doll: The drummer, Gustav Schafer (he’s the one on the left), went on something of a driving spree in Germany yeterday, crossing lanes and crashing into trams in a blaze of… well, something:

The 20-year-old musician was in his BMW 3-Series on Tuesday afternoon in the German city of Magdeburg when the accident happened. He reportedly overtook a line of traffic and drove straight over tram tracks which had been blocked off. His car was then hit by an oncoming tram, skidded into the right lane of traffic and hit two further cars.

There were two passengers in the car–both of whom were nine years older than our hero!–and luckily everyone escaped with only minor injuries. But! Schafer may still be brought up on “bodily harm due to negligence” charges. I don’t know if that’ll get him time in the pokey, but I do know that the chase, as described, will make an awesome opening to the VH1 movie about their descent into hedonism that’ll no doubt air in 2016.

    Why is Bjork holding a piece of slime from Ghostbusters 2 with a bunch of teenagers?

    Maybe i should save this post for the Bandom heading, but i’m oh so curious to know about the other two guys in the band, the musculy drummer and the stoner-looking bassist. How did they join the band? Are their images nearly as cultivated? What is their deal? Most importantly, why are they so short?

    @BillyChance: +1

    I so don’t get the image of that band, but I have to laugh every time I see the lead singer due to the resemblance to Bjork.

    I wonder what their fans will say about this, those chicks are crazy. I wrote a negative review of their first album for a website and I got death threats from pissed off 14 year old girls.

    I cannot take my eyes away from Bill Kaulitz. I keep waiting for something to drop and reveal that he’s actually an animatronic wax figure or something. That is one PRETTY boy! Then again, I’ve always had a thing for Bjork…

    @drinkypuss: I am NOT a TH fanatic…but I do know that they all met as kids playing little shows int their little German town…

    And that the twins actually acted/dressed much as they do now even as little, unsigned kids…but, sigh, according to my fanatic sister it would appear to be true. Not that their label doesn’t encourage the nonsense, of course!

    Poor Gustav. He threw my sister his drumstick in the balcony last Wednesday and to say she was thrilled would be an understatement.

    That said…it was one of the smallest shows I have ever been to for a “famous” band….WTF?

    @ LostTurntable - we fans are just happy that Gustav is okay and that nobody was seriously hurt. That is a normal human sentiment, yes? Give TH fans a chance - the crazy hormonal tweens are the most visible and vocal, but there is a huge spectrum of fans to whom this band is beloved. We range from the little girls to the girls to the young women to the moms and grandmothers who have come to love the music, and don’t forget the male fans - both young hipster types and dads who have been slowly won over. I’ve traveled all over the US to see four of Tokio Hotel’s concerts, and I’ve been honored to meet so many amazing fans. I would say that Tokio Hotel is lucky in their fans, not only because we are tireless and dedicated, but because as a group we are some of the most caring, intelligent, conscientious, hard-working, well-balanced and beautiful people you will meet. There are of course Internet crazies, but why don’t you come to a show sometime and see how it really is? Their music is so much better and different live, they just set the stage on fire, and the fans are great in person. Come see for yourself.

    @ drinkypuss - the drummer and bassist do not have the stylized looks of the guitarist and singer, they are pretty standard, low-key rock types, visually speaking. By the way nobody in the band is short - those two appear short because the frontman is 6 feet 2 inches, WITHOUT counting the enormous corona of hair, and his twin brother the guitarist is an even 6 feet tall. Very tall, very thin. People don’t suspect that, because their faces are pretty and they appear delicate. But they’re really really tall. The other two are kind of normal height.
