Sadly to say, Stipe’s metamorphosis into a member of the NYC cultural elite has been going on for years. He also cropped up in Mario Batali’s PBS show last night, he’s regularly doing weird charity things like designing hand-made lunchboxes, etc. etc.

That’s great. Now, whenever Michael Stipe is being harangued by a lone fan, he can imagine he is actually basking in the adoration of a stadium full of adoring fans. And we get ugly, expensive shirts.
