Siobhan Donaghy Sounds A Wake-Up Call

siobhannnn.jpgToday I found myself wondering what former Sugababe and crafter of my favorite album of 2007 Siobhan Donaghy has been up to, and it turns out that she’s releasing an EP in concert with the UK electronica outfit Square1. Donaghy’s gloomtempo “Styfling,” which was a track from the Ghosts sessions that didn’t make the album’s final cut, has been remixed by the outfit to middling results. But the original, which is streaming from Square1’s MySpace page, is still a gorgeous bit of melancholica abot being trapped by love, tempered by just the right amount of synthesized skronk and a few Donaghy-as-Furie voices swooping in here and there. Hopefully it’ll be a physical release instead of just being chucked up on iTunes with little to no fanfare.

I don’t think there will be much fanfare around this one. I’d be suprised actually. But am so glad that we have new Siobhan. It’s been too long actually.
