Well, not “fishing,” really, but writing a headline that said something like “Gone having a bad reaction to some lunchtime sushi” isn’t as snappy, you know? So I’m going to be away from the blog for a couple of hours while I get myself sorted, but please enjoy the above video, which pretty much sums up how I’m feeling right now. Oh, also, there are 30-second samples of Britney Spears’ Circus. In particular, check out “If You Seek Amy,” which is apparently Max Martin’s attempt to give our Brit Brit her own “I Kissed A Girl.” Just check out this lyric: “All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy.” Get it????? I can already hear the parental outrage. OK, back later! [YouTube]

God, that’s dumb. The lyric, not the video.
Oh man, these songs are really kind of really terrible. Maybe they’ll be better in their entirety?
Sleeper hit: Blur
(Feel better, Maura!)
Everything I have heard of this album makes me think that it is kind of an evolutionary missing link between “In the Zone” and “Blackout”- Kill the Lights is a beta version of Piece of Me, etc. If only Circus had been the breakdown album and Blackout had been her Stable Comeback. Obviously that doesn’t work for a plethora of reasons, but WAH WAH WAH anyway.
I’m having a slow day obviously, what is there to get about that Amy song?
@JohnOO: F-U-C-K Me
@brasstax:
Whoa. That’s reaching, isn’t it?
@JohnOO: No, it’s not just you, dude. All I could think of, for some reason, was Elton John’s “All The Girls Love Alice”
Seriously, if someone wanted to be really tacky, they should cover that.
@ScrabbleChamp: how does the lyric make sense any other way?
@Nunya B: Of course you’re 100% right. I’ll join you in a deafening WAAAH WAAAH WAAAH.
@ScrabbleChamp: BIG reach.
Come on. The F-U-C-K me is not that big of a reach. It makes sense. The lyrics are completely nonsensical otherwise.
I don’t know. I don’t think these are that awful.
@propaganda-artist: No, I know that’s exactly what’s intended by “If You Seek Amy”. It works no other way. I’m just saying, and I think ScrabbleChamp is too, that it’s just stoopid.
@brasstax: haha - well no argument there.
@brasstax: Amen. It is dumb as hell, that’s for sure. At this point, is she trying to save face and not upset the parental figures? Come on, Britney. Just say the f word.
whatevz, these songs are HOT!
well, seriously, some of them are. “unusual you” is going to be great, as is “Blur” I think. “Mannequin” sounds kinda like a mess, but I think “if you seek amy” and “mmm papi” sound pretty fun, despite week lyrics.
@Ned Raggett: Damn, the freaking Poster Children. I saw them play in Ann Arbor once during a massive snowstorm. There were maybe 20 people in the place. They still destroyed. The ’90s were kind of awesome.
…and can I get an amen for Bettie Serveert? I’m just sayin’…
@brasstax:
Right! Thank you for that, it all makes sense now. I can rest easy now.
Sammy Hagar and Eddie Van Halen are kicking themselves right now that they didn’t think of that one first.
@brasstax: That’s exactly it. I think that most parents wouldn’t pick it up until it was pointed out to them, either. Aren’t there better ways to be shocking in late 2008?
It’s too bad, I actually liked Blackout a lot. Meh, I’m sure I won’t be the only one in the she-was-better-when-she-was-crazy camp.
oh yeah, this probably won’t be as good as Blackout, I mean it just can’t be. Blackout was the best pop album of the decade. But Circus sounds like it will at least have 5-6 great pop tracks.
maybe it’s not that she was better when she was crazy, but maybe she was better when she was too dazed and confused to have any input on her own album. that’s a sad thought, but it might be true.
best pop album of the decade isn’t completely inconceivable, but let’s not forget Fever, Robyn, Futuresex/Lovesounds. it seems like a sad commentary to award “best pop album” to a record whose titular star was barely present in mind or body.
Is Britney is actually ripping off Poster Children?
If You See Kay.
And my name is Amy and I don’t appreciate this at all. There are no good Amy songs.
@amyk: THANK YOU! POSTER CHILDREN! I’ve been trying to remember why that wordplay seemed so familiar to me, and it’s because of Rick & Rose.
Ha, I was thinking about the Poster Children last night when I first read this post. Stellar, stellar band.
