If you’re a stronger person than I am, you might want to check out the upcoming schedule for Elvis Costello’s talk show on Sundance, which debuts next month; guests include Bill Clinton, James Taylor, and Herbie Hancock. I spent ten minutes or so scratching my head trying to figure out what happened to the angry young man of his records with the Attractions, but I eventually gave up and decided to listen to one of my three This Year’s Model reissues instead. I was there for the taping of the Diana Krall / Elton John and Herbie shows. It will be well worth tuning in.

He’s always been overly prolific. And now, like Emmylou, he’s ubiquitous as a guest on other people’s recordings. A bit much, methinks….

On the “Lou Reed ‘Berlin’” DVD, there’s an excerpt of the Reed / Julian Schnabel appearance. It’s mostly Schnabel’s fault, but god it was stultifying — hope it gets better, because based on that, Elvis is barely fit to polish Jools Holland’s bench.

At least E’s showbiz clout is paying off: I’d heard that Diana Krall is a tough get . . .

P.S. Any truth that “Momofuku” was the first thing heard out of E.C.’s mouth after Bonnie Bramlett socked it?
