ABC’s Promo Department Crafts The Most Heavy-Handed “Lost” Tribute Video Ever

November 21st, 2008 // 4 Comments

Last night, Phase One of ABC’s attempt to remind people that The Fray still exist began with the above video, a promo for the upcoming season of Lost set to their plodding new song “You Found Me.” Yes, that’s really its name, and if you thought the overly literal translations between Lost‘s plot points and the song’s words ended there, oh boy are you in for a treat. The lyrical syncing is straight out of eleventh grade: “Lying on the floor”–you get a shot of Locke on his back! “I’ve been calling”–you get a shot of Desmond on his emotional transoceanic/transdimensional phone call with Penny! I guess it’s annoying because, first of all, so many amateurs have done this particular job better (and used infinitely superior songs, to boot), and second of all, is it just me, or is there a lot of repurposed old footage stuffing this clip’s three-minute duration? Annoying? Really? I felt like I’d been put through the wringer…like I’d just watched a new episode almost. There was tons of new stuff! Lots of off-island O6 stuff…the still-on-the-island-ers being attack with flaming arrows…Charlotte’s bloody nose…Jack and Sayid fighting…Desmond (oh Desmond!!) SHIRTLESS crying and angsty and SHIRTLESS!

Are ya sure you were watching the same promo? ;)

Oh shit, this just ruined my day. Even a Jeff Buckley song would have been better than this crap. It’s like if Reese’s was peanut butter covered in dog shit, instead of chocolate.

@Nutzrpoppin: I couldn’t agree with you more. And I only watched about the first 5 seconds.

At least we can all be thankful that Lost, unlike most other shows of any variety on any network, hasn’t stooped to the level of cramming songs like this into the show itself. Fine, put a stupid Fray song in a promo, but don’t you dare touch my beloved single-note crescendos and echoey scraping cymbal squeals!

I refuse to acknowledge ABC’s existance because they have cancelled Pushing Daisies. I like Lost, but i’d rather wait for the Sci Fi Channel and/or G4 to catch up with the new episodes than watch it on a network that killed one of the best shows on TV in years (and most likely will kill Life on Mars next)
