China, perhaps unsurprisingly, is not happy about the title of the new Guns N’ Roses album; authorities are not letting the album into the country, and fans are wondering just what, exactly, the title is trying to say about Axl’s attitudes toward their homeland. The best thing about this news? It means that Cornrowed Axl gets his own Wall Street Journal woodcut. [WSJ]

From the SongMeanings website:
“I am from China and I have no idea what this song is about. I agree with an earlier poster, Axl doesn’t even have an arguement here. He is basically just throwing out a bunch of buzz words, “iron fist”, “locked up”, ‘FaLun Gun’. It’s like Sarah Palin talking about economy. As far as bashing Chinese government goes, IMHO Roger Waters’ “Watching TV” is far more intellectually interesting.”

I want a WSJ woodcut. Of course, I’d also want it to look more like me than the one of Axl does of him.
I wonder if it’s a play on the phrase harder than Chinese arithmetic. Maybe more elusive than Chinese democrcy? I.e., the completion of the album?
Fantastic read, I just handed this onto a colleague who was doing a little researching on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him…. smile.. So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch! But yeah Cheers for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and really like learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
