Manics + Richey's lyrics + Albini is a high stakes game. I enjoyed Send Away The Tigers, the first time the Manics sounded truly free and uncalculating since Everything Must Go, and both solo albums had something to offer, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. You're either looking at a classic or a self-conscious retread of The Holy Bible. Here's hoping for the former.

That last Manics album and James' solo album were top notch, so I'm definitely curious to hear the new one.

On seeing the headline I assumed it meant they'd found his bones or some such. Which would be a 'better' way for his family to attain closure. I figured something must be afoot when they announced that the next album would be using all his lyrics (they've used a few of his since his disappearance, primarily on Everything Must Go though those songs were already recorded in rough demos before he disappeared).

The Steve Albini connection is very exciting to me, I will be interested to see what he brings to the album.

In the mid/late 1990s, around the time that the Manics had really taken off, I was watching a BBC Wales news programme about the opening of the New Severn Bridge. No guessing which music they used!!

The fact that Steve Albini is working with the Manics is the most 'uh?' part of this story.

I remember my first and only trip to London ('91 maybe?), reading about Manic Street Preachers in NME and scouring the city looking for their first couple of singles. Although they hit greater commercial heights without him, the band wasn't ever the same after Richey's "disappearance" removed the edge from their sound.

I guess that this provides Edwards' parents with a sense of closure, but I retain a morbid curiosity about what happened to him. Hopefully he took the money and ran away to a tropical island where he's laughing his ass off!
