Pop Culture Is Never Gonna Give The Rickroll Up

A few news items that you might have missed while sleeping off your cranberry-sauce-and-stuffing coma:

• Ne-Yo is going to bring his grown sexiness to the next Marilyn Manson album. [Hollywood Insider]
• There’s a Grammy Museum opening! It’ll be like a Hard Rock Cafe, except more self-important and with fewer franchises. [Variety]
• The latest ’90s band to have reunion rumors swirl around it: Faith No More. Don’t mess with my heart, you guys. [Blabbermotuh]
• And finally, lots of American breakfast tables were no doubt filled with confusing conversations about “this Internet thing” as Rick Astley came out to lipsync “Never Gonna Give You Up” during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, much to the delight of the Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends cast. Clip after the jump.

(My dad knew what Rickrolling was thanks to the whole Shea Stadium thing a few months back. Yay Internet?)

I tried–in vain–to explain to my 54 year old mother and 57 year old aunt what exactly Rickrolling was. They knew the song, but they were confused as to why I was so surprised over his appearance. I think they believed the song had seen a legitimate rebirth.

@propaganda-artist: Me, my girlfriend and my dad began bursting with laughter when this happened. My mom and other various family members stared at us in confusion and semi-worry.

So, with that ultimate rickroll, is the fad officially old now? We should get to more recent matters. Like that literal a-ha video (PIPE. WRENCH. FIGHT…)

Can Rickrolling finally be dead now? I mean, this was funny and all (if a little late) but it’s not going to be topped, and I hope no one tries.

(Oh, I see DocStrange is on the same wavelength.)

Can somebody tell me where P4k is this morning? Good grief, I cannot get work started in earnest without frowning over the latest Marc Hogan review.

@Captain Wrong: I always thought Billyrolling would’ve been a lot funnier.

haha blabbermouth via kerrang, that’s reliable. the fnm reunion ‘rumors’ aren’t even worth mentioning. noone in the band ever heard anything about it, and i can’t imagine patton going back to milk that cow now when he barely cared to milk it in its heyday. that bastard has always been perfectly content recording his farts and pissing in shoes.

So… no one else is the slightest bit disturbed by the large, blue penis singing on that float? And, no… I’m NOT referring to Rick Astley. (I have it on good authority that his is more of a corn flower blue.)

Mmmmmm, FNM reunion. But they went through a whole slew of guitarists in the 90’s, I’d be interested to see who they brought back. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say “Not Trey Spruance.”

@Bilson: P4k always takes about a week off before they post their end of year lists (they go kinda big).
