Add some darker colors, some random and completely illegible cursive print and a random 19th century picture of “winter in New England” and you have yourself a blogzine, my friends.

    Ha!

That Arcade Fire picture/headline gave me a good laugh.

I really wish I’d been around for Smash Hits‘ heyday.

Maura, saying “the future?” implies that we’re not already there.

  6. by Poubelle at 3:15 am

Hah, “ZOMG look it’s BRITT DANIEL!!!” is pretty damn accurate.

I really want this to be a real magazine. Maybe it’s just because I’ve been waist-deep in Asthmatic Kitty releases for the past month… starting to go a bit batty.

The funny part is that Sufyawn is just as gay as any current Tiger Beat cover star.

    One thing that is missing…
“WIN A DATE WITH __________!!” contest

  12. by at 4:19 am

@NewHillBilly: I think “Win a date with ANY MEMBER OF BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE” would be fitting.

  13. by MayhemintheHood at 4:38 am

@NewHillBilly: Ha. Good call. “Win a date with Ezra Koenig!”

  14. by Thierry at 6:45 am

@NewHillBilly: Well, there’s always that “Win a date at IKEA with a member of Pavement!” contest…

@Michaelangelo Matos: Man, Smash Hits was the best (was there a US Smash Hits too, or are you referring to the British one?)
to a ten year old, it was the coolest music mag ever, although my switch to Select when I was thirteen made me feel so grown up.

  16. by Michaelangelo Matos at 8:58 am

@moomintroll: the British one. I have the book commemorating its ’80s heyday, before I was into music mags.

  17. by ObtuseIntolerant at 9:01 am

Whoa, backwards day for me. Awesome.

  18. by ObtuseIntolerant at 9:02 am

No girls with advice on how to be more like them though? It needs Jenny Lewis style tips or sommat.

  19. by moomintroll at 11:04 am

@Michaelangelo Matos: I missed the heyday, I was well into the Take That/Bros/Kylie years when I was taking my pocket money to the newsagents. I did love the fact that although they were a teeny bopper magazine by the time I was ten, they had a good mix of decent bands. I thought I was so alternative because I liked Shakespeare’s Sister.

    Needs to be a gallisticle.

  21. by DocStrange at 2:18 am

@Silverfuture: Her or Jenny Conlee of the Decemberists. Or Shonna Tucker of Drive-By Truckers. Or 3/7 of Los Campesinos!

  22. by lempha at 2:54 am

@MayhemintheHood: He’s hit the mainstream already:

O, wait, Salon isn’t the mainstream. My mistake.

You’d win a date with Marnie Stern, obvs.
