As could be expected, the gimmick of having a reality show winner sing the universally beloved and seemingly indestructible song “Hallelujah” was stunningly successful, and the version by Britain’s X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has now become the quickest-selling single of all time in Europe, having moved 105,000 units since being released yesterday. (The previous holder of the title was the previous X Factor winner.) Every time “Hallelujah” hits another peak of visibility—The OC, American Idol, and now this—everyone familiar with the song wonders if this will finally make it uncool. We’ll see! [Guardian]
