In Case You Need Something To Do With Your Internet

A new song by Prince will apparently debut on Los Angeles radio station Indie 103.1 sometime before 5 p.m. ET today. (This would seem to fit with the Web site’s promise that “an EXCLUSIVE new track from a big… big… star” would make its way to Steve Jones’ show this afternoon.) My tipster tells me that the song is from “a new, very guitar heavy rock record” that “will be a breakthrough record for Prince.” Awesome. [Indie 103.1]

@Al Shipley: And it’s not like he hasn’t rocked before.

I’m just scared he’s going nu-metal or something.

@Michaelangelo Matos: i would be fine with prince nu-metal, or something! the man hasn’t been out of his comfort zone in 20 years. as evident from his last ten+ records, the skinny mofo with the high voice NEEDS to listen to some new music and challenge himself, and stop going through the motions whilst calculating for the charts. as bloated and flawed as 2001’s rainbow children was, at least it sounded alive and inspired.

@Michaelangelo Matos: Maybe he’s going White Stripes.

He’s such a good guitar player, but it seems like his band always has 2 or 3 more than necessary keyboard players.

I’d love it if he got totally wasted on Sparks and went to a Crystal Castles show. Prince and Alice Glass in the studio together-now THAT’s a collabo I could get behind!

Jonesey’s playing three tracks. First one mixes Crimson & Clover with Wild Thing, and an actual honest-to-God Prince guitar solo.

That “Wall of Berlin” was great!

@TriedandTrue: Yes, “Wall of Berlin” was the clear winner! That guitar solo is major!

@T’Challa: Oh man I wanna hear that!

My “awesome” was 100% sincere. But you probably figured that.

OMG YOU GUYS WHAT IF HE COVERS RADIOHEAD

I like the idea of a new Prince record being described as a “breakthrough.” What could even possibly be an artistic or commercial breakthrough for Prince at this point!? The mind boggles.

Aw man, I missed it. Must find…
