Prince Would Like To Remind You Of His Greatness

After yesterday’s flurry of new Prince songs and hints that he wanted to go a non-traditional route to distribute his next record, a new track from the Purple One has emerged: “There Will Never B Another 1 Like Me” is currently streaming from the very #6600cc MPLSound.com. It’s a compact, six-minute funk workout with a beat that recalls the coda to “Alphabet St.” and what I’m pretty sure is the first time Prince has ever used the word “e-mail” in a lyric. (UPDATE: According to Matos, he actually had a song called “E-Male” on Emancipation, which was released all the way back in the Mosaic-era year of 1996.) [MPLSound.com; HT RS]

Actually Prince has a song called “Emale” from Emancipation all the way back in 1996! It even has the “Goodbye!” AOL sample in it. I realize most people didn’t embrace Prince’s 3-CD opus so it is easy to overlook this gem.

Maura! How could you forget the track “EMale” on the Emancipation record? The purple one has been cyber-savvy from the get-go, even if his attempts at e-commerce have been ill-advised and clunky.

I’m thinking that would have been “Emale” from ‘Emancipation’ way back in 1996.

actually it’s “Emale,” sorry. Prince sang a LOT about the Internet back then–and then the disastrous web-distribution scheme for Crystal Ball happened. sigh.

I should have known you’d be on that.

I dig the track. The “Whoo!” is straight out of “New Power Generation.”

Well these other 4 are fun. Between the Crimson & Clover / Wild Thing and the Hendrix-y thing, he’s sounding more classic rock-y than usual, but it’s still really fun.
