The Doobie Brothers Soak Up The Citrus

The Doobie Brothers performed their 1973 rock-radio staple “Long Train Runnin’” on last night’s Orange Bowl, and they actually sounded pretty good in the face of generally crappy live-TV presentations of music and what seemed to be a gigantic wind machine (or maybe it was just the crazy Florida weather?). I will confess to you all that while I’m quite familiar with “Train,” I actually never knew what it was called until performing the YouTube searches on this halftime show, which briefly shot the band back into the Internet’s consciousness last night. Thanks, classic rock stations that don’t back-announce! Finally, a fun fact: The Doobies’ current drummer used to be in Vertical Horizon. Yes, that Vertical Horizon. (Bet you thought you wouldn’t hear that track in 2009, ha ha.) [YouTube]

@Rock You Like An Iracane: Oh God oh God. That performance… I was working at MLB.com then and we had the game on and the sound system in the office was so, so loud. I mean, over 1db would have been too loud, but. Yeah. Ugh.
