Are the lyrics to “My Life Would Suck Without You” about an ex-lover (”Cuz we belong together now / Forever united here somehow”), or Clive Davis (”You got a piece of me” … “Maybe I was wrong for tryin’ to pick a fight”) or nobody at all, just some faceless glyph thought up by Dr. Luke and Max Martin as they sat on their giant pile of money and tried to figure out the exact thundering melody that would get the inaugural American Idol back into her home country’s good graces? Read the full thing after the jump, and, feel free to speculate on what the song’s preferred spelling of the shortened form of “because” might mean!
Guess this means you’re sorry
You’re standing at my door
Guess this means you take back
What you said before
Like how much you wanted
Anyone but me
Said you’d never come back
But here you are again
Cuz we belong together now
Forever united here somehow
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you
Maybe I was stupid for telling you goodbye
Maybe I was wrong for tryin’ to pick a fight
I know that I’ve got issues
But you’re pretty messed up too
Anyway, I found out I’m nothing without you
Cuz we belong together now
Forever united here somehow
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you
Being with you is so dysfunctional
I really shouldn’t miss you, but I can’t let go
Oh yeah
Cuz we belong together now
Forever united here somehow
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you
Kelly Clarkson Shares New Single’s Lyrics [PopEater; HT Reed Fischer]

POETRY.
“Cuz” isn’t short for “because”, it’s short for “cousin”. Note the use of “dysfunctional” in the bridge; a word seldom used without the connotation of family.
Clive Davis is reading these lyrics with a shit-eating grin on his face.
@K-Rex: Wow, that puts the song in an entirely different light.
@K-Rex: Kissing cousins?
The single cover looks like an old Pulp one because of the heavy airbrushing and the font.
I only went with him/
cuz he looks like you/
oh, Clive!
No good song has ever used the word “suck.” Ever.
Oh man, I realize that it’s just a song, but these lyrics are seriously socially irresponsible. Then again, so were all the girl group songs, so … But still! This seems so positively damaging to the psyche of the listener, like oh, all of Beyonce’s ballads, for instance.
again, this was audible in a scene of an episode of Sundance Channel’s “Iconoclasts” (the episode first aired in early November) involving Bill Maher and Clive Davis as a songwriter’s demo. What I heard of it then was pretty bad even then.
@DocStrange: Saw that episode, too, and you’re totally correct.
I’m gonna go with “faceless glyph.”
@Dashiell Bennett: I think Bikini Kill’s “Suck My Left One” is awesome. But going strictly (and unfairly) on the off-putting cover art, I do not think this song will reach such heights.
@Dashiell Bennett: “Oh Death” by hollAnd?
@Dashiell Bennett: Slow by My Bloody Valentine
IMO being able to read a song’s lyrics before hearing it is the worst kind of leak, even moreso than hearing a really bad demo version or radio rip first. I’m just gonna scroll past the words and wait to hear the actual track.
Go kill yourself.
